Tai chi for high blood pressure

Please remember there should be no strain when practising any of our exercises if you are unsure please consult your doctor.

Starting position :- this exercise may be practised from a seated or standing position with your arms by your sides.

1/ Breathe in through the nose as you extend your right forearm (palm facing up). At the same time place your left arm on top of your right palm (palm facing down).

2/ Breathe out through the mouth as you wipe your left palm up your right forearm level with your elbow applying a slight amount of pressure as you slide the hand up to the elbow.

3/ Breathe in through the nose as you wipe your left palm back down your right forearm to your right palm ease off with the pressure.

4/ Breathe out through the mouth as you return both arms to your sides.

Repeat all four movements on the opposite side.
Repeat all four movements once more on each side.

The next thing you need to learn are a few of our Tai Chi Form movements which can easily be practised every day. For people who say they do not have the time, an easy answer is to put the kettle on and practise your Tai Chi while you are waiting for it to boil.

Some of our students have achieved excellent results after practising LFA Tai Chi for only a short while. Their doctors have been delighted with them and they in turn are only too happy to explain what has caused the change in themselves.

Correct breathing is also essential, from a seated position practise breathing in through the nose as you expand your stomach and allow your breath to sink as low as possible.

Breathe out through the mouth as you contract your stomach. At first this type of breathing can make you feel a little light headed. With practise it can become second nature to you.

Breathing in this way helps you to use all of your lungs, ensuring that toxins are not allowed to build up in the lower part of your lungs.

This in turn helps to take the strain off all of your organs, allowing them to be nourished. All of this is vital to the health of your body.

It is also important to look at the food and drink which you put into your body, if you eat cold food your body has to use energy to warm it up.

If you eat really hot food your body has to use energy to cool it down. It makes sense when you think about it, if your body is already under strain why add to the load.

I personally follow the Chang Ming diet and have done so for many years, the principles where laid down over three thousand years ago and have stood the test of time.

I encourage you to use the free video clips featured on this website as they are there to help you. Take the time to perfect the movements, listen to what is going on inside your own body.

If you would like further help, all LFA Instructors will welcome you into their classes where they will be able to assess your needs and offer you exercises which you can take home with you and practise.

If you wish to practise in the comfort of your own home, we have five professionally recorded and edited videos. Each video is broken down into five teaching lessons.

First we teach you how to move your legs and where to place your feet. Next we show you how to include the hand movements. Finally we show you how to use our specialised breathing techniques to enhance the movements.

If you prefer to learn from a book we also have a series of eight easy to follow books. I would recommend that you start with the form book although the choice is yours and all aspects of the LFA Health Arts will help to lower your blood pressure.
